Brief: Rather than the typical correspondents dinner, CNN wanted to continue their tradition of a “hangover brunch” the day after, with a theme reflecting the current state of the Hill.
Solution: We took over a three floor venue, transforming it into the spirit of Nola with a subtle “Swamp” political nod. Each level of the event brought experiences unique to the heritage of New Orleans, and of CNN.
Consumer Experience: Consumers entered to a completely transformed exterior of the space, bringing a lush French Quarter vibe with hundreds of hanging plants, wrought iron, and street signage. Outside, in our “hangover swamp,” guests enjoyed a build-your-own green juice bar (spiked or non), live band, and a custom snow cone machine with thematic CNN flavors. Inside, guests discovered a light airy Nola vibe with two photo moments, and as the centerpiece, our tropical “les faits en premier” (The Facts First) bar serving up Nola cocktails, king cake and mimosas. Neon signage directed guests to “JZ’s Jazz Room” on the second floor, a swinging live jazz club featuring top musical guests, art installations, thematic set decor, drinks and bites. Up a candlelit set of stairs, the third floor held a secret speakeasy bar with a signature elixir cocktail with interactive set design inspired by the voodoo and witchcraft of New Orleans.
My role on the project was to develop custom graphics, design and illustrations that brought the space to life in an beautifully graphical and cohesive way while blending all the unique vibrance of each room and space to one authentic voice for CNN and the event’s visual identity.
